Heritage
Our Humble Beginnings
In 2019, we opened our very first stall inside Tanjong Pagar MRT station under the name Ang Moh Dumplings. It was a true passion project — Chef & Founder Vadim would prepare food during early mornings, lunch breaks, and late nights while holding a full-time office job. The mission was simple but ambitious: introduce authentic Russian home-cooking to Singapore, one dumpling at a time.
A Brave Move Forward
A year later, we took a leap and moved into a bare unit at Maxwell Chambers — the same location we operate from today. It was a risky upgrade to a bigger, proper restaurant space, and we rebranded to Fusion Dumplings. This step marked the beginning of our transformation from a tiny MRT stall into a real dining destination.
Rebranding & Momentum
In 2021, we rebranded again — this time to dumplings.ru. We leaned fully into Eastern European cuisine, sharpened our identity, and finally started seeing real traction. More customers discovered us, word spread, and our small family team began to grow alongside the demand.
Expanding to Lau Pa Sat
The momentum continued. In 2022, we opened a kiosk at Lau Pa Sat called Russian Street Food. It was our first step into Singapore’s vibrant street-food scene, allowing us to bring our flavours to a larger crowd and push the brand’s name even further across the city.
Kapitan Is Born
2023 marked our biggest transformation yet — our rebrand to Kapitan. We renovated the Maxwell Chambers restaurant into a maritime-themed space while keeping our Slavic soul at the centre of everything. The new identity allowed us to expand beyond Russian and Ukrainian dishes into a wider range of European comfort food, all while strengthening the story behind our name and heritage.
Pop-Ups & Islandwide Presence
In 2024, we were invited to showcase Kapitan at Marina Bay Sands and took part in multiple pop-ups across the island. These events helped us bring our cuisine to new audiences, introduce our signature dishes outside of our main restaurant, and continue growing the Kapitan brand beyond its home base.
Experience
This isn’t fusion. It’s not fine dining. It’s Slavic soul food, the way it’s meant to be. Onboard with us — and experience real hospitality, Kapitan style.
Authenticity
Kapitan is Singapore’s only truly authentic Eastern European restaurant, serving hearty, handmade dishes from Russian, Ukrainian, and Polish traditions. No shortcuts. No fusions. Just real food, rooted in generations of Slavic culture.
A good time
At Kapitan, it’s not just about what’s on the plate — it’s about what happens around the table. We keep the spirit of Eastern Europe alive with vodka-tasting nights, where you’ll sample 10 house-made infusions — from classic horseradish to wild berry and honey pepper. To themed events with our DJ’s We also go all out for the festive seasons - Halloween, Christmas, Valentines day! Whether you're here for dinner, drinks, or just a good story, we promise you one thing: It’s never boring at Kapitan.
